Product Images & Details

Best practices for presenting your products

Why Product Images Matter

High-quality product images and detailed descriptions are crucial for online ordering. Buyers can't physically see or touch your products, so images and descriptions are their only way to evaluate quality.

📈 Impact: Products with clear images and detailed descriptions receive significantly more orders than those without.

Product Image Guidelines

Technical Requirements

File Formats

JPG, PNG, or WebP

File Size

Maximum 5MB per image

Aspect Ratio

Square (1:1) recommended

Resolution

Minimum 800x800 pixels

Good Product Photos

  • Well-lit with natural or bright lighting
  • Clear focus on the product
  • Clean, simple background (white or neutral)
  • Shows actual product you're selling
  • Accurate colors and appearance
  • Shows packaging if relevant

Avoid These Mistakes

  • Dark, poorly lit photos
  • Blurry or out-of-focus images
  • Cluttered or distracting backgrounds
  • Generic stock photos
  • Misleading or inaccurate images
  • Watermarks or logos covering product

How to Take Great Product Photos

1. Use Good Lighting

Natural daylight is best. Take photos near a window or outdoors in indirect sunlight. Avoid harsh shadows and direct flash.

2. Choose a Clean Background

Use a plain white or neutral background. A white tablecloth, poster board, or wall works well. The focus should be on the product, not the background.

3. Fill the Frame

Get close enough that the product fills most of the image. Buyers should be able to see details clearly.

4. Show Multiple Angles (If Possible)

While ChefOrdering currently supports one image per product, choose the angle that best represents the product. Front view is usually best.

5. Keep It Honest

Don't over-edit or enhance photos. Show the product as it really looks. Misleading photos lead to disappointed buyers and returns.

Writing Effective Product Descriptions

What to Include

  • Product type and variety: "Organic Roma Tomatoes" not just "Tomatoes"
  • Origin or source: "Locally grown" or "Imported from Italy"
  • Quality grade: "Grade A", "Premium", "Select"
  • Packaging details: "Sold in 5kg boxes" or "Individual vacuum-sealed"
  • Storage requirements: "Keep refrigerated" or "Store in cool, dry place"
  • Best uses: "Perfect for salads" or "Ideal for grilling"
✓ Good Description Example

"Premium Grade A chicken breast, boneless and skinless. Sourced from local farms. Each piece weighs approximately 200-250g. Vacuum-sealed for freshness. Perfect for grilling, baking, or stir-frying. Keep refrigerated at 0-4°C."

✗ Poor Description Example

"Chicken breast. Good quality."

Too vague - doesn't provide enough information for buyers to make decisions.
